What is a KOT (Kitchen Order Ticket)?
A Kitchen Order Ticket (KOT) is a written or printed slip that travels from the dining area to the kitchen, communicating exactly what a customer has ordered, from which table, and any special preparation instructions.
KOTs are a foundational part of restaurant operations in South Asia, the Middle East, and across hotel & fine dining venues worldwide:
- Prevents miscommunication between servers and chefs
- Creates a paper trail for each order โ useful for billing checks and dispute resolution
- Allows the kitchen to prioritise orders by time and table
- Helps managers track order volumes and kitchen throughput
